Why a Charles Schwab–specific analyzer?
Generic budget apps often stumble on Charles Schwab exports because the bank offers two distinct data styles: consumer banking (Checking/Savings) and brokerage activity (buys, dividends, interest, fees). The MoneyToolsHQ analyzer handles both. For banking CSVs, we detect merchants, subscriptions, transfers, and categories. For brokerage CSVs, we normalize cash-flow records (dividends, interest, fees, transfers) while ignoring non-cash trade rows when you choose “Spending view.” You’ll get clear monthly spend charts, recurring charge alerts, and a clean CSV you can import to spreadsheets or tax software.
How the tool works (in short)
Upload a file → choose preset → the parser normalizes each row to a common schema:
{date, description, amount, currency, category, type, account}.
Banking CSVs use a signed Amount or separate Debit/Credit columns; brokerage CSVs may include Action (e.g., DIV, INT, FEE, ACH, TRANSFER). We detect recurring payments (same merchant, similar amount, monthly cadence), common fees, refunds, and internal transfers. Then we surface visual summaries—top categories, biggest merchants, cash-flow by month—plus a downloadable “clean CSV.”
How to export Charles Schwab statements (web & app)
Schwab Bank — Checking/Savings (web)
- Sign in at Schwab.com → Accounts → pick Checking or Savings.
- Choose a date range (last 3/6/12 months recommended).
- Click Export (or Download) → select CSV (preferred) or OFX/QFX.
- Save and upload above.
Schwab Bank — Checking/Savings (mobile app)
- Open account → Transactions → date filter.
- Use Export/Share if available, or email the CSV to yourself.
Schwab Brokerage — Activity (web)
- Go to Accounts → History/Activity for a brokerage account.
- Filter by date and Type (All, or Cash flows only).
- Click Export → choose CSV. Upload here and select the Schwab Brokerage preset.
Tip: For clean personal budgeting, export “cash flows” (deposits, withdrawals, fees, dividends to cash). For investment performance, you’ll need separate portfolio tools; this page focuses on cash-flow and spending analytics.
Preset mapping for Charles Schwab (bank & brokerage)
Schwab Bank CSV (typical): columns like Date, Description, Amount, Type, Balance. Amount is usually signed (negative for debits). We map:
Date → date, Description → description, Amount → amount (signed), Balance → balance (optional).
Schwab Brokerage CSV (typical): columns like Date, Action, Symbol, Description, Quantity, Price, Fees, Amount. For spending views, we keep rows where Amount is non-empty (cash effect): DIV, INT, FEE, ACH, TRANSFER. Trades without immediate cash effect can be hidden from category charts by default.
What insights you’ll get
- Top categories & merchants: Groceries, Dining, Transportation, Utilities, Subscriptions, Fees, Transfers, Income, Dividends.
- Recurring payment radar: Finds monthly charges (streaming, software, memberships) with amount/vary tolerance.
- Cash-flow by month: Income vs expenses with brokerage cash events included or hidden (toggle).
- Fee finder: Surfaces banking and brokerage fees. Useful for refunds or plan changes.
- Duplicate detector: Flags near-identical rows within 1–2 days (mobile re-posts, corrected entries).
Privacy & local processing
Everything runs in your browser using JavaScript. We do not upload your statements. When you click Delete session, the page forgets all data. For PDF parsing, this beta uses text-extraction only; scanned PDFs may require exporting CSV from Schwab first.
FAQs
Do you store my statement?
No. Parsing and analysis occur locally in your browser. We don’t store or transmit files.
Which file formats work best?
CSV is ideal. OFX/QFX also works. Text-based PDFs may parse; scanned PDFs typically don’t—export CSV instead.
How do you categorize Schwab brokerage transactions?
We focus on cash-flow rows (DIV, INT, FEE, ACH/Transfer). Trades without immediate cash effect can be hidden from “spending” charts.
Can I edit categories?
Yes—click the category cell in the table to type a new one before exporting.
Is this tax advice?
No. This is an informational tool. Consult a qualified professional for tax advice.
Can I export to Excel/Google Sheets?
Use the Download Clean CSV button. It opens in Excel/Sheets smoothly.
Examples
