TL;DR — What this tool does

  • Instant Citi parsing: Drag in your CSV/OFX; our preset maps Citi’s column names automatically.
  • Clean categories: Groceries, Shopping, Dining, Utilities, Transport, Fees/Interest, and more.
  • Recurring finder: Detect monthly subscriptions and standing charges.
  • Privacy-first: Analysis runs in your browser. We don’t store or transmit your data.
  • Export ready: Download a cleaned CSV for taxes, budgeting, or spreadsheets.

How to export Citi statements (Web & App)

Exporting your Citi transactions takes a minute. On the web, sign in to Citi Online and open the account you want to analyze. Choose Download or Export from the activity area, pick your date range (we recommend the last 3, 6, or 12 months), and select CSV for best results. Credit card and bank accounts both offer CSV; many accounts also support OFX/QFX for finance apps. Save the file to your device and upload it to the analyzer above.

On the mobile app, navigate to your account activity, use the ellipsis or export icon, select a date range, and choose CSV. If your device suggests opening the file in a spreadsheet app first, you can still save it to local storage or Files and upload here. For annual records, export several consecutive ranges (e.g., Jan–Jun, Jul–Dec) and upload them one after the other.

What the analyzer detects automatically

  • Category tagging: Merchants and memos are classified using rules that work well with Citi descriptions (e.g., “AMZN Mktp” → Shopping).
  • Recurring charges: Monthly cadence detection for subscriptions, memberships, storage, and media streaming.
  • Fee & interest flags: Late fees, over-limit fees, cash advance fees, and interest charges are grouped and summarized.
  • Refund pairing: Potential refund/chargeback matches identified by merchant match and inverse amounts.
  • Duplicate detection: Identical date+amount+merchant lines are flagged so you can ignore duplicates after exports.

Known Citi quirks & how we handle them

  • “AMZN Mktp US*xxxx” strings: Collapsed to Amazon Marketplace and categorized under Shopping.
  • Interest and fees: Lines containing “INTEREST CHARGE” or “LATE FEE” route to Fees/Interest.
  • Gas and transit: “SHELL,” “BP,” “EXXON,” “UBER,” “LYFT,” and “MTA” are mapped to Transport.
  • Refunds: Positive amount with “REFUND/RETURN/CREDIT” keywords becomes Refund and pairs against a recent debit.
  • Balance transfers/cash advances: Tagged and summarized separately for clarity on credit usage.

Insights you’ll get in minutes

After parsing, you see total transactions, net cashflow, and category chips highlighting where money goes—groceries, shopping, dining, utilities, transport, health, subscriptions, and more. The recurring finder surfaces monthly charges and their cadence (every 30–31 days; same merchant, similar amount). Fees and interest are grouped so you can measure their impact and plan to reduce them. Finally, you can download a clean CSV for taxes or budgeting with your preferred spreadsheet.

FAQs

Do you store my Citi statement?
No. Parsing and categorization run locally in your browser. We do not upload or save your files.
Which formats work best?
CSV is the most reliable. OFX/QFX also works. Scanned PDFs are not supported in this version.
Can I edit categories?
Yes—export the cleaned CSV and change categories in your spreadsheet, or re-run with custom rules (coming soon).
Does this work for both bank and credit card accounts?
Yes. Citi checking/savings and Citi credit cards that export CSV/OFX are supported.
How far back can I analyze?
As far as Citi lets you export. For long periods, export multiple ranges and upload consecutively.
Are currency symbols handled?
Amounts are normalized to numbers; currency symbols are ignored. Citi US exports are USD.
Will categories be correct for every merchant?
Most common merchants classify well. You can always adjust downstream in your spreadsheet.
How do I remove duplicates?
We flag exact duplicates (same date, merchant, and amount). The cleaned CSV excludes those rows.
Can I analyze multiple accounts at once?
Upload each exported file; the results append. You can then export a single consolidated CSV.
Is this financial advice?
No. It’s an educational tool. Always verify and consult a professional for advice.
